Where to Stay in Rome

Hotels in Vatican City – Prati

Directly adjacent to the spiritual centre of Rome, Prati is an area often overlooked by visitors. But cross Piazza Risorgimento and you’ll be stepping into one of the most popular commercial areas in Rome. Mix with the locals to shop for Italian and international fashion brands, gourmet shops and enough shoe shops to satisfy all fashionistas. Resulting from an urban expansion plan in the early 1900s, this district is also comfortable to get around thanks to its grid-like street plan and no wobbly cobblestones.

Trastevere

If you are planning an extended holiday into the night, Trastevere is where to head for your stay. Long-standing as the place for Italians and visitors alike to converge for a night out, this area of Rome is an irresistible maze of pizzerias, quirky boutiques, second-hand shops, cobblestones and shady, wandering streets.

Termini Central Train Station

The most convenient choice if travelling to other parts of Italy, the area around Termini is also attractive in its own right: Monti, a small trendy neighborhood and nightspot, and Piazza Vittorio, Rome’s multiethnic commercial district, are both within walking distance. Rome’s best budget accommodation is situated in this area.

Nomentana Area

Stretching on either side of the Ancient Roman Nomentana road, the area which goes by the same name is a peaceful and appealing district to the north of the city centre. Tree-lined sidestreets, parks and elegant residential buildings tipify this neighborhood; bordering the historic centre of Rome, it has direct public transportation to most of the major sites.

Rome City Centre Hotels

Within the centre itself, all major sites and attractions are easily reached by foot. The Vatican and Trastevere, although not considered the centre of Rome, are both connected to this area from Largo Argentina and are not more than a 10-15 minute bus ride away. The streets around the Spanish Steps are where to head for luxury brand shopping, with gelaterie and eateries sprinkled on every corner. Beware, there is no lack of crowds and heat either, especially during the high summer season.
